2017 | A Year in Review

Over the last few days, I've been reflecting on this past year. It feels like it went by so quickly, and yet it took me almost three hours to go through all of my photos from 2017 and choose my favorites. It was a good process for me though, because it's been easy for me at various points during the year to become discouraged about my work: Am I growing artistically? Do these images portray the serious joy of life that I want them to? At the core, are these even beautiful? Combing through my hard drive this afternoon turned out to be a really good exercise in observing that practice makes progress. I'm really proud of these photos and of how much I've grown in my business this year. Thank you to all of my clients (and now friends!) who have invested in me and who trusted me capturing their joy this year.

Looking forward to 2018, I'm doing something a little different this year and actually writing down my goals. I know. It doesn't seem like a huge step, but for this highly detail-oriented girl, writing down larger concepts is getting out of my comfort zone. But I did it! So here are my photography goals for this coming year:

- Shoot at least one destination wedding (I've got a list of places I'm dying to go - check it out here!)

- Learn more about the business of running a business from other photographers

- Practice my flash photography skills

- Shoot in more direct sunlight

- Try shooting primarily with a lens I don't normally use

- Create more personal work

Below you'll find a collection of my favorite photos from this year. If you happen to see your face in one of them, know that it was a privilege to have you in front of my camera this past year.
